Tell me about patent renewals in South Korea
General Information
In South Korea, patent renewals are required following the grant or registration of the patent. Upon grant or registration, the renewal fees for the first three years are due. Subsequently, on the third anniversary of the grant, the renewal fee for the fourth year becomes payable. This process continues annually, with a new renewal fee due on each anniversary until the patent expires, 20 years from the international filing date. Unlike most regions, South Korea impose higher official and surcharge fees that scale with the number of claims.
